Journey to Kamchatka in summer

If you have long dreamed of traveling to Kamchatka, but still are not ready for long hikes with backpacks and tents, then pay attention to this route. You will live in a comfortable tourist complex located at the bank of the mountain lake at the Paratunka resort area, famous for its termal springs. famous for its termal springs, and daily radial trips to the most picturesque places not far from Petropaclovsk-Kamchatsky.

We recommend this tour for families with children and tourist who are not ready for long-term trekking and overnight stay in tents. It combines comfortable accommodation at the Paratunka resort area with a different acrivities, such as off-road trips, hiking routes, boat trips and rafting.

The itinerary includes a free day for optional tours and activities. If desired, and for an additional fee, you can also book helicopter tours to see the unique Geysers valley, to observe the bears' life on Kuril lake or to get acquainted with the native inhabitants of Kamchatka.

Itinerary

The journey begins with a meeting at the airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where you should get to on your own. We can help with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, leave a comment in the application.

Day 1 Arrival to Kamchatka

After meeting at the airport you will move to Paratunka resort area, where you will stay at the tourist complex and have some rest. In the evening you can relax at the thermal swimming pools.

Day 2 Boat trip to Avacha Bay

After breakfast you will move to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and have a city tour. You get acquainted with the history of Kamchatka in the museum of local lore, as well as will visit the viewing points and the fish market.

 

Then you will have lunch in a cafe, after that you will be taken to the port to enjoy a boat trip to the Avacha Bay (about 5 hours). It is one of the largest ice-free bays in the world, the main "transport "gate" of the Kamchatka Peninsula. You will see Tri Brata (Three Brothers) Island — one of the main symbols of Kamchatka.

 

Next, you will go out to the Pacific ocean. If you are lucky, you will meet the seals, whales and killer whales. If not, do not worry — you are going to visit Starichkov Island, where you will watch the largest sea bird rookery in Kamchatka. Steller's sea eagles, cormorants, tufted puffins are nesting here.

 

You will have dinner on the board and then will return to the base in Paratunka and can relax in the thermal pool.

Day 3 Trip to Vachkazhets mountain range

After breakfast you will go to the Vachkazhets mountain range. From here you will start a light hiking route, during which you will visit the picturesque lake and waterfall, admire stunning mountain panoramas with blooming Alpine meadows. Also it is a good place for birdwatching.

 

On the route you will have a picnic. In the evening you will return to the base, relax and take a dip in the swimming pool with thermal water.

Day 4 Rafting on the Bystraya river

Today rafting on the Bystraya (Russian for "Fast") river is waiting for you after breakfast. It will last for 3-3,5 hours. The raft will be managed by a guide, so you can rest and fish. Chinook, sockeye salmon, pink salmon, chum salmon are coming here to spawn. If you are lucky, during the walk you will see bears hunting fish going to spawn on the banks of the river.

 

You will have lunch on the river's bank and then finish rafting. Further you will move to the area of Malki village, where you will swim in natural hot springs. In the evening you will come back to the Paratunka resort and rest.

Day 5 A trip to the Avachinsky volcano

Today you will have an off-road trip (~ 2 hours) to the foot of one of the most active volcanoes of Kamchatka& — the Avachinsky volcano (2751 m high). It is often called the "home volcano", because of its proximity to the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Its crater is filled with frozen lava, above which fumarole fumes often rise.

 

Here you will be walking along the volcanic spurs (7 km on foot). Climb the Camel mountain, take beautiful photos of the mountainous landscapes and can see the colonies of ground gophers. You will have lunch outdoors at a picturesque place and then go to the Pacific coast and walk along the famous Khalaktyrsky beach with black volcanic sand. In the evening, you will return to the base and rest.

Day 6 Optional day for helicopter excursions

On this day you can relax in the thermal pool or take one of the helicopter excursions (extra charge). You can fly to the Geysers valley that is the famous UNESCO world heritage site. Or you can visit the Kuril lake, where dozens of bears arrange salmon fishing. 

 

Also you can visit the ethnic complex and get acquainted with the culture of the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka. See the detailed description of the optional tours in the "Common question" section.

Day 7 Optional route to the "Small Geysers valley"

Today after breakfast you will have an off-road trip to the Mutnovskaya geothermal power station (about 3 hours). Then if desired and for an additional fee you will enjoy a guided walk to the Dachny hot springs, called by locals «Small geysers valley». The springs are located in a ravine with steep walls. A large cauldron is bubbling at the bottom, escaping strong jets of steam.

 

On the route you will have a picnic, after which you will walk to the picturesque waterfall (40 m high) located on the Spokoiny (Russian for "Calm") stream. In the evening you will return to the base and relax in the swimming pool with thermal water.

 

The itinerary may change due to the weather conditions. Instead of a walk to the Spokoiny waterfall you can can visit the Vilyuchinsk waterfall and the Upper Paratunsky hot springs.

Day 8 Departure

After breakfast you will be taken to the airport to depart home.

Accommodation during the trip

You will stay at "Lagoon Villa" tourist complex at Paratunka resort area. The complex is located 30 km away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on the bank of the mountain lake Mikizha, surrounded by forests and mountains. You will be accommodated in comfortable double/twin rooms with free Wi-Fi, a fridge and a bathroom. On-site facilities include an aquacenter with 2 thermal pool and jacuzzi, a restaurant with a special menu of Kamchatka seafood, a bar, a horse farm and a boat station on the lake.

 

If desired, you can choose to stay in "Sputnik" Hotel in Paratunka (the cost of the trip will be 1200 EURO per person for a DBL accommodation).

What will the weather be like +

Kamchatka is a mountainous region stretching from the North to the South and surrounded by the waters of the Pacific ocean and the Okhotsk sea. The weather here is changeable, and there is a  special microclimate in different areas.

 

The best months for summer travel are July and August. The average temperature in August is +12°C to +16°C. In the highest parts of the mountains there are glaciers. Rain is possible, as well as snow at high altitudes. In the forest area there are a lot of mosquitoes and midges. In September, it is important to take into account the low temperature and the possibility of frost.

 

You should be ready for all kinds of weather conditions: from summer heat to strong winds with cold autumn rain and frosts.

Optional excursions +

On the sixth day of the tour, you can take one of the optional tours for an additional fee. Flights are carried out by Mi-8 helicopters. Duration of the tour: 6-7 hours. The group consists of 19-23 people, who are always accompanied by a guide. The price of the flight includes hot meals and swimming in natural springs (bring with you a swimsuit, a towel and slippers).

 

1. Helicopter tour to Geysers Valley

Cost: 645 EURO per person.

 

Highlights of the tour:

  • flying around active volcanoes Karymskiy and Maliy Semyachik
  • a walk at the Geysers Valley (1,5 hour) — it is one of the largest geyser fields in the world. It is considered to be one of the Seven wonders of Russia and a UNESCO world heritage Site.
  • observing the caldera of Uzon volcano — it is a giant hollow formed as a result of an ancient volcano's collapse. Hydrothermal activity is high occured at the bottom of the caldera.
  • swimming in Nalychevsky hot springs


2. Helicopter tour to Kuril lake

Cost: 615 EURO per person.

 

Highlights of the tour:

  • Kuril lake — every year school of salmon come here to spawn, followed by dozens of brown bears. You will be able to observe them from a distance of only a few meters.
  • the сaldera of Ksudach volcano is a very picturesque place and is considered to be a natural monument
  • swimming in the Khodutkinsky hot springs


If you wish to book a helicopter tour, please inform us at the time of booking or at least 2 weeks in advance. The flight is paid for at the airport, but seats in the helicopter is important to book in advance.

 

Note: in case of bad weather, the helicopter tour will not take place. If it is important for you to get to the Geysers Valley or Kuril lake during your trip to Kamchatka, we recommend to take some reserve days before or after the tour.
